Refik Anadol, born in Istanbul in 1985, stands at the forefront of media art and machine intelligence aesthetics. Coined during his residency at Google AMI in 2016, the terms "AI Data Painting and Sculpture" attest to his innovative approach. Residing in Los Angeles, he heads Refik Anadol Studio and RAS LAB, a research practice dedicated to pioneering approaches to data narratives and artificial intelligence. Holding a Master of Fine Arts from UCLA's Department of Design Media Arts, Anadol explores the impact of ubiquitous computing on human existence in the age of AI. His work redefines perceptions of time and space, creating immersive environments that reflect the profound changes brought about by the digital age.
Recipient of prestigious awards such as the Lorenzo il Magnifico Lifetime Achievement Award for New Media Art and Microsoft Research's Best Vision Award, Anadol's global projects have been showcased at iconic venues worldwide. From the Venice Biennale to the Walt Disney Concert Hall and the Centre Pompidou, his site-specific audio/visual performances captivate audiences. Despite his numerous accolades, Anadol remains committed to sharing his studio works on social networks, issuing a warning about potential seizures for viewers with photosensitive epilepsy.
